California Poppy, Red Mikado (Eschscholzia Californica) Seed is a classic red bloom perfect for any type of garden. As goes along with the Mikado strain of poppy, these do best planted in masses, so you’ll be sure to have plenty of color. These poppy’s bloom in a vibrant and stunning scarlet shade with a bright yellow middle that makes the plant pop. The four delicate petals form a small bowl shape, and top a skinny dark green stem and foliage. These flowers tend to bloom somewhere around mid or late season, and will reach a height between 1-2 feet.

They do require full sun, along with sandy or loamy soil, as long as it’s well-drained. An added benefit is the deer resistant qualities these flowers possess, making sure that these pests stay away from your beloved flowers. Because these flowers close their petals at night or in the cold, it is not recommended to use them as cut flowers, but they do work well as showy flowers or extended blooms, and are incredibly easy to grow, making them perfect for a child or beginning gardener.
