Grow one of America’s most beloved sweet onions with Walla Walla Onion Seeds from Todd’s Seeds. Famous for their exceptionally mild, sweet flavor and large, globe-shaped bulbs, Walla Walla onions are the perfect choice for gardeners who want premium-quality onions right from the garden.

You’ll get one quarter pound of Walla Walla Onion seed.

Originating in Walla Walla, Washington, this heirloom onion has been celebrated for generations. Unlike storage onions, Walla Walla onions are meant to be enjoyed fresh at harvest — grilled, sliced raw in salads, layered on burgers, or caramelized for gourmet flavor.

Expect bulbs up to 6 inches across, weighing up to a pound each under the right growing conditions. With their golden skin and white, juicy flesh, these onions are as beautiful as they are delicious.

Growing Instructions

  • Planting: Direct sow in early spring as soon as soil can be worked, or start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep.
  • Spacing: Thin seedlings to 4–6 inches apart in rows 12–18 inches apart.
  • Light: Requires full sun.
  • Soil: Loose, well-drained soil with consistent moisture.
  • Harvesting: Ready in 100–125 days. Harvest when tops fall over and begin to dry. Best eaten fresh, as Walla Walla is not a long-term storage onion.

Uses

  • Sweet, mild flavor perfect for salads, sandwiches, and fresh eating
  • Ideal for grilling, roasting, and caramelizing
  • Excellent as a large, eye-catching market onion

Health Benefits

Rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and fiber, onions support immune health and digestion. Their unique sulfur compounds also contribute to heart health and reduced inflammation.
