European Columbine Seed grows into one of many gardeners favorite´s it has been around for many decades, for this reason it has many names such as Crowfoot, Granny´s Bonnet and Columbines. It originated from Europe and at times is known as the European Crowfoot. It is both “William Guiness” or “Magpie”, one thing for sure is that the blooms are hard to miss, because they are so striking. They are easy to grow and bloom from mid-spring to early summer. Columbine flowers have pronounced spurs which extend out behind each bloom. These are nectaries, and are accessible to insects which harvest from them.
Although the seed and the root are toxic, it’s a favoured plant for growing in partially shady, damp, or high altitude situations. They tend to be tall, graceful and intricate, long spurred blossoms which are perfect for cutting. Dozing and elegant, the fairy-like blooms are held high above delicate foliage. Ideal for using as mixes in woodland plantings or any shady location. They tend to be white, cream, yellow, and red color flowers. For ideal planting conditions ensure to deadhead the seed pods before they open to control self-sowing. They have a plant height of around 3 inches.
