Clarkia elegans seeds bloom into beautiful pink powder puffs with bright red stems. When they mature they reach heights of up to 2 feet tall. They are popular in the wild of Northern California. They have red stems and in certain climates such as Southern California, the clarkia can reach up to 4 feet high. In general they tend to grow between 18-30 inches when they mature. They are annual flowers, which require direct sunlight of approximately 6 hours/day, or half shade, which is approximately 3-4 hours per day. Their bloom time is from spring to summer.
They will do well in all type of different soil conditions such as sandy soil, loamy soil, clay soil, dry soil and wet soil. Ideally the soil should be cleared prior to planting to ensure that there are no previous plants or roots in the soil. This will give optimal results when planting the seeds. Clarkia elegans require dry soil, average, wet soil, moist and well-drained soil. Their main uses include extended blooms and showy flowers due to their bright colored petals.
