Product Description

The Shogoin Turnip is a very versatile Japanese Turnip that is tender and fine-grained. Its uses in the kitchen range from being steamed, or even pickled. They mature after 42 days. The seeds have an average of 4 years. Turnips will grow with a vast height and eventually flower. You may be required to stake them. The seeds tend to mature, but only when the pods are dry. Either harvest the individual pods or the entire stalks. After, place them in bags as seed or on to a tarp only in the morning when plants are wet with dew. Use an eighth of an inch screen to aid in cleaning and ensure they are stored in a cool dry place. Ensure they are planted in full sun, they can tolerate partial shade. The soil needs to be well-drained, deep and sandy loam. They should be planted at least 3-4 weeks before last frost. In warm climates sow them in September. They should be planted seed deep with a quarter inch spacing between them. he row spacing should be at least 12 inches. They should emerge from 5- 10 days. Keep the soil moist only and then thin them when they are 1 inch tall think to 3 inches apart.
