Product Description

<br>Perennial Gaillardia Seed is a short-lived perennial with deep colors, daiy-live flowers. They are native to some area of North America. They are native to California and used for deer resistance, showy flowers, extended blooms and they are easy to grow. They are named after the Russian botanist, J. F. Eschscholtz who visited the California coast early in the 19th century. The Perennial Gaillardia creates a slow spreading mound. It is short lived, it can reseed and sprawl through the garden. The original plants are hybrid, therefore there will be variations from self-seeding. The leaves are lance-shaped grey-green and at times lobed. The 3-5 inch flowers are shades of yellow and red. Some of the petals are surrounding a center disk which produces florets, whereas others have trumpet-shaped florets surrounding the entire disk.

They grow in full sunlight which is around 6 hours per day, they can grow in partial sunlight but they do not flower as well as they do with direct sunlight. When they mature they are around 12-18 inches and they bloom from mid-summer to fall. Ideally they need a well-drained soil and it will grow in moist conditions, but it cannot tolerate clay soil. Poor soil encourages more flowering than rich soils. You can seed as many Perennial Gaillardia Seed varieties and sow them in spring, but they will not flower for the first year. To get a head start it is optimal to sow them in late summer and protect the young plants over the winter.
